Pray for Peru - The DeLands

Delands blog post

Dear family, friends, and ministry partners,
As many of you have seen on social media, Perú is in a state of emergency due to severe weather conditions. While Lima is experiencing an intense summer heat with dangerously high UV rays, the mountainous and jungle regions have been pummeled by severe rainstorms and the rain continues to fall.

This abnormal surge in rainfall has caused numerous mudslides throughout various regions of Perú, causing the rivers to overflow and wreak havoc and destruction along their uncertain path.

Washed out roads have also prevented small, isolated towns like Ayavirí (where we serve twice a month) from getting needed supplies from Lima.

The flooding and mudslides are now greatly affecting Lima, destroying whole communities and leaving thousands of people displaced without shelter, food, or drinkable water. Not to mention that the water treatment plant is not equipped to handle the excess of dirty water coming into Lima and their solution is shutting off all water outlets until they can process it. This includes neighborhoods like ours that haven't been affected by the flooding. I could go on, but as you can read, we are in a crisis right now in Perú and covet your prayers. Below I posted a few pictures of the road to Ayavirí and some other pictures not related to the weather crisis.

1. Please pray that the rain will stop. It is supposed to continue raining until April.

2. Please pray for all of the people that have lost loved ones or their homes.

3. Pray for the safety of all of the volunteers who are desperately trying to bring needed aid to those around them.

4. Pray that Christians would rise up and show Christ's love in tangible ways while sharing the truth and hope of the Gospel.
